5 Star Wars Inspired Desserts For A Galactic Adventure

We all have grown up watching some shows or movies that have made a special place in our hearts. From their dialogues to costumes, the fans catch up on everything and they are remembered forever. Besides dressing up like the characters we also celebrate them by cooking dishes that are inspired by the movie or show.

The best example of such cinemedia is Star Wars. This is an iconic space opera franchise, that began in 1977 and has captured the hearts of millions with its epic battles, memorable characters, and otherworldly settings. If you are also a die heart fan of Star Wars, here are five delectable recipes that is surely going to transport you to a galaxy of flavor:

Storm Trooper Treats

Storm troopers are soldiers from Star Wars that have created a separate fan base. With their white costumes, they have impressed many kids all around the world. So, why not make some sweet treats inspired by storm troopers.

Ingredients

  • 1 package of white chocolate ding dongs
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tarter
  • 2 cups powder sugar
  • black gel food coloring

Method

  • Unwrap ding dongs and place onto the cookie sheet. Using a standing mixer, combine egg whites, cream of tartar, and sugar and mix on medium speed until stiff peaks form about 7 minutes.
  • Mix in food coloring. Scoop the icing into a piping bag. Pipe a black line going horizontal at the 3/4 mark on the ding dong.
  • Next pipe on a thick upside-down and two dots on the bottom corner. Finish the ding dong by piping out the rest of the stormtroopers face.
  • Let it dry for an hour and enjoy.

Wookiee Cookies:

Wookiee cookies are a delightful dessert that is inspired by the beloved character, Wookiee. Made with all-purpose flour and eggs, it is flavored with ground cinnamon and chocolate chips.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tsp ground ginger
  • 1-1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1-1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, melted
  • 1 cup white baking chips, melted

Method

  • In a mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy for 5-7 minutes. Beat in molasses, egg and vanilla. In another mixing bowl, whisk flour, ginger, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt and cloves into creamed mixture.
  • Divide the dough in half. Shape each into a disk. Cover and refrigerate for about 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion to 1/4-in. thickness. Cut with a floured 3-inch gingerbread man cookie cutter.
  • Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Create lines in each cutout with tines of a fork to look like fur. Bake for 7-9 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely.
  • To decorate, pipe melted semisweet chocolate for eyes, nose and utility belt, then pipe again with melted white chocolate for mouth and bullets. Let it sit until set. Enjoy.

Lightsaber Lollipops

How can Jedi training be complete without a lightsaber? So, let's make delicious lightsaber lollipop for your next party. As lightsaber comes in different colors, you can use vibrant and colorful candies for the recipe. Your kids will love it for sure.

Ingredients

  • Jolly Rancher hard candies
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Candy thermometer
  • Parchment paper

Method

  • Lay out a sheet of parchment paper on a flat surface. Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C). Arrange the Jolly Rancher candies on the parchment paper, leaving enough space between each one for them to spread as they melt.
  • Place the parchment paper with the candies in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the candies have completely melted and spread to form a flat, circular shape.
  • While the candies are still hot and soft, carefully insert lollipop sticks into the melted candy, making sure each stick is securely positioned. Leave enough space at the bottom for a handle.
  • Take a different color of candies and melt them separately. Carefully spoon this melted candy onto the bottom of each lightsaber to create the handle. You can shape it to resemble the grip of a lightsaber.
  • Allow the lollipops to cool and harden completely. Once done, you can enjoy.

Princess Leia Cupcakes:

Celebrate the royalty of the Rebel Alliance with Princess Leia cupcakes. These princess cakes are adorned with Oreo cookies, heart candies and white buttercream frosting. It is perfect to make it for your kid's birthday party.   

Ingredients

  • A Box of your favorite cake mix
  • White Buttercream Frosting
  • Red food coloring
  • Oreo cookies
  • Black Wilton frosting
  • Heart candies

Method

  • Make cupcakes according to the directions on the box. Generously frost each cupcake with a thin layer of white icing.
  • Using a thin writing tip take your black icing, start one side of the hair first, from the center down. Add the other side of the hair and then add the eyes.
  • To make the mouth, use a small amount of the white frosting and add one drop of red food coloring to make pink. For the hair buns, use a dab of icing to stick Oreos to the sides of the cupcake liner. To get rid of the ‘white line’ from the creamy center of the Oreo simply run a thin layer of black frosting down the center of each Oreo. Serve and enjoy.

Death Star Whoopie Pies

The Death Star is the space station and superweapon of Star Wars. Built by the autocratic Galactic Empire, it can annihilate entire planets into rubble and is known to enforce the Empire's reign of terror. These pies are perfect to bring out the dark side of Star Wars.

Ingredients

  • 2 9-inch pie crusts
  • 4 cups blackberries thawed and divided
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • Seeds of one vanilla bean
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries
  • 1/4 cup honey

Method

  • For Death Star design, cut out a 6-inch circle from one the pie dough. Use a sharp knife to draw the designs. Let this sit in the fridge while you make the pie filling.
  • In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of blackberries, cornstarch, vanilla bean seeds, and granulated sugar. Cook over medium heat, using a spoon to mash the blackberries.
  • Once the mixture comes to a low boil, stir every couple of minutes. Let the mixture cook until it becomes a jelly-like consistency, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat. Fold in the rest of the blackberries and cherries. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and fit a pie plate with the other pie crust.
  • Pour the filling into the crust and smooth it out as much as possible. Drizzle with honey. Place the pie dough on top and place the pie pan on a baking sheet. Bake uncovered for 10 minutes. Then cover and bake for 35 minutes more.
  • Let the pie cool, serve slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
