Banana and Rum Loaf, Boozy Affogato: Five Alcohol-Infused Desserts for Adults

Written by Devki Nehra | Jan 30, 2024 9:30:00 AM

Ensure that you're of legal drinking age before trying out these desserts because they contain alcohol.

Indulge in this two-in-one combination of spirits and sweetness. Alcohol is typically incorporated into dishes to enhance dormant flavors and introduce a new depth. In baked and cooked desserts, the alcohol will evaporate, leaving behind a delightful, woody aroma and taste. So, there’s definitely no need to worry about your desserts turning bitter or having a one-note taste. You can infuse hot and cold desserts with a wide-range of spirits, including rum, brandy, whiskey, gin, and even champagne or prosecco. Try these recipes for your adults-only dinner party:

Boozy Affogato

Ingredients:

  • 1 generous scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • 1 shot espresso
  • 30 ml almond liqueur

Instructions:

  • Scoop your vanilla ice cream in a bowl.
  • Add the warm espresso, followed by the liqueur.
  • Serve this easy dessert to your guests.

Bread Pudding with Irish Whiskey Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cream
  • ½ cup Irish Whiskey
  • ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cornstarch dissolved in 2 tsp of water
  • 10 slices of white bread
  • 1 cup chopped Dairy Milk chocolate
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • Butter

Instructions:

  • Heat the cream, syrup, whiskey, and ½ teaspoon of vanilla in a saucepan. Remember to not bring this mix to a boil, so keep the heat on low and stir it often. Then add the cornstarch slurry. It should look like a thick and pale sauce. Pour in a jar and keep aside.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 F and grease your baking dish.
  • Chop your bread slices and mix them with the chopped chocolate, beaten eggs, two cups of milk, sugar and one teaspoon of vanilla extract. If you want, you can add a splash of whiskey to the pudding batter too.
  • Transfer this eggy bread batter to your greased baking dish and sprinkle some brown sugar on top if you want. It will caramelize and give a nice brown hue to the pudding.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil before putting it in the oven for about 50 minutes.
  • After that, bake it without the foil on for 10 minutes.
  • If your sauce is a little thick, you can add some warm milk and loosen it before pouring it on the bread pudding.
