In this spunky tale of Barbie and the Three Musketeers, Barbie takes the lead in battling gender norms to become a female musketeer alongside three other girls, living the “all for one and one for all”. Trained by an unusual woman who works in the palace, Barbie, along with the three girls find themselves fighting their way against gender norms and evil ploys. We picked the musketeers and some of the other characters and turned them into their dessert equivalent in this fun article.
Corinne comes in with an unwavering resolve to be a musketeer and remains unfazed and unfettered even when she and her musketeer aspirant girls get banished from the castle, their one-way ticket to achieving their dream. There is a ball, and several ballgowns, which also transform into shorter versions that are the musketeer garbs, making room for agility. For such a determined and wholesome character, who takes zero disrespect, even from the Prince, nothing but the purest Italian desserts will do, we’re talking about the milky panna cotta.
The kindest of the three girls, Aramina is the first one to forgive and show concern for Barbie i.e., Corinne, after she accidentally jostles all of them in town and the castle, making them late for work. She’s the sweetest and most romantic character who gets all starry-eyed when it comes to the Prince with zero malice or hate in her bones. For such a sweet musketeer, one of the most refined chocolate desserts – a chocolate mousse is perfect. She wears teal green and wields twin fans in her musketeer avatar.
A little skeptical of Corinne initially, Viveka instantly melts when she hears Corinne’s pet kitten, Miette purr. She wields purple ribbons, matching her shiny outfit when she’s in her musketeer avatar. She is also the group’s dressmaker who stitches all the girl’s outfits when they are shunned from the palace after failing to convince Monsieur Treville, the commander of the King's musketeers, that the Prince is in danger. She’s an apple cake, one of the most simplest and sumptuous apple desserts out there.
She’s the harshest one among the lot but she is soon won over by Corinne when she returns her violin bow, stuck in the fountain figurine. She wears blue and plays the violin, and also the practical one in the group, who share the same desire as her to become a musketeer. She even uses the bow as her fighting weapon in one of the scenes. For the frosty character who eventually warms up, one of the sweetest blueberry desserts – a blueberry pie is perfect. Its crumbly nature is the same as her character development and pies being a symbol of the working class back in the day, also represent her hard-working and sensible nature.
Ken’s character as Prince Louis is underwhelming in this tale, he’s the damsel in distress for a change as Corinne and the three musketeers come to his aid to protect his life. He’s into physics and inventing as shown by his hot air balloon incident and his incessant commentary when he was being kidnapped in a lift by the man he trusted to be his guide. He’s a dry fruit cake who seems like a great intellectual to have over at tea and share fruit cakes with. He’s not exactly too skilled in swordsmanship as the stereotype of the era he lives in demanded.
The acting advisor to the Prince, who is the heir apparent, has been secretly finding ways to off the prince who would rather invent things than be the ruler. That makes him the main antagonist of the story. The dual color scheme and flavors of the Black Forest Cake represent the front he puts up versus his actual sinister intentions. The whipped cream part studded with cherries is the front that he upholds in front of the prince and the Musketeer commander, Monsieur Treville. The other chocolate part is the treacherous villainy he possesses.
Hélène is the biggest surprise in the movie, she is a trained swordswoman, but couldn’t become a musketeer, so when she discovers that the four girls have the same ambition as her, she becomes a mentor to Corinne and her friends. She's like a creme brulee, the thin sugar disc hiding her sophistication and strength from the world despite her age. The mask slides off to reveal the creamy and smooth custard, only when she is mentoring the girls all the while she works as a maid under the tyrannical supervisor Madame de Bossé. The tables do turn later.
