Brownie desserts and more for the characters in Barbie & the Diamond Castle

Barbie and the Diamond Castle celebrates friendship and in our favorite Blondie’s own words, “Friendship is the true treasure”. In this musical that celebrates the friendship of two friends who adore each other and make a living growing and selling flowers, it’s the aspiration of many millenials. Deviating from romantic love being the focus of the movie, it was a refreshing watch and a girl’s girl kind of musical. For such a wholesome movie, we’ve turned some of the characters into delicious desserts

1. Caramel Custard – Alexa

caramel-custard

Perhaps the most sound character in the movie, she knew when to stop, but unfortunately that got her caught in the trap set up by the villain. She just dreamt of a better life where she and her best friend Liana would want for nothing. But as the plot thickens and the tables keep turning, she has a change of heart and realizes what she needs – a simple life with her dear friend. Isn’t that so sweet like a plate of caramel custard? One of the most simple caramel desserts, it is also earthy and quite simple just like Alexa’s grounded character.

2. Orange Cheesecake – Liana

She's Barbie, of course, she's adventurous, and when fate comes knocking who is she to say no, for the greater good? In this universe that spells disaster for her when she disagrees with her best friend causing a rift between them. She storms out with the trapped Melody with her and her puppy Sparkles. The name she picked for her puppy speaks volumes about her traits of putting others before herself and her flight of fancy expectations. She’s an orange cheesecake, headstrong and proud, with a dreamy feel to her.

3. Brownie – Melody

The gorgeous brunette apprentice with brilliant blue eyes was the guide for the two BFFS, to salvage her little world from the clutches of the third muse, who wanted everything for herself. She dresses like a Grecian goddess and like the Muses and also Liana and Alexa, she has a melodious voice, because of which she can’t help but sing all the time. She makes a great sacrifice by smashing the mirror she had trapped herself in, making her redemption impossible. But all is right in the end, like how it feels to sink your teeth in a chocolatey brownie at the end of a grueling day. If you're into brownie desserts, you must try this sizzling brownie recipe

4. Chocolate Lava Cake – Lydia

The third muse who went astray and had destructive ambitions, made Lydia a very realistic villain. The hot chocolate lava in the cake represents her burning desire and goal to wipe out all the singers and musicians and live in the Diamond castle all by herself happily ever after. One can only wonder what might’ve caused that, that made her rebel and keep a horned serpent as her pet and ride. Chocolate lava cake is one of the easiest chocolate desserts to make, and also one of the more fragile ones, just like Lydia and her plot to find and take over Diamond Castle.

5. Gingerbread – Slyder

A flying serpent with creepy eyes and goofy teeth with a GPS tracker on his head, the singular and wobbly antennae-like thing, was the supporting evil-doer by being the servant of Lydia. He terrorizes Alexa and Lydia and destroys their home to do the bidding of Lydia, and in the end, for his loyalty, he meets the same fate as his mistress, being turned into a statue. For a royal monster, warm gingerbread bread feels fitting. His tendency to be a sycophant makes this dessert perfect, for him, as the icing on it elevates it to a more sweeter and striking dessert.

6. Cake Pops – Sparkles and Lily

The girls found two little puppies, one a cocker spaniel and the other a white terrier while traveling in the valley of flowers, both of whom, they readily adopt. Both puppies are smart and on more than one occasion manage to save their lives and rescue them, not on their own of course. They are twin cake pops with bows tied on them, for as the time for the twirling dress transformation scene appears, they do get a gossamer pet costume made with glitter.

7. Vanilla Slice – Jeremy and Ian

Honorable mentions to the identical “double trouble” twins, who are also musicians in the series, that’s how they meet the two protagonists, who are best friends. Sarcastic to a fault, Ian and Jeremy were taken by their singing, something that ties the whole movie together and the cause of all woes. They also have a penchant for trouble, causing it, or finding themselves in the midst of it, that’s how they end up being vital to helping Lydia and Alexa fulfill their mission. The twins are a vanilla slice made with puff pastry and smooth vanilla custard, quite a combination just like their sweet and sour personalities.
