The Hindi dub might have been something barely close to the OG Japanese, but it sure was fun! So we had a little fun of our own and turned its characters into desserts that suit them

Doraemon cartoon characters as Japanese, simple and fusion sweets

From the simpleton Nobita who is nothing but a wuss without the hi-tech gadgets of Doraemon, the cat robot from the future, to the supporting cast who are his classmates, Doraemon ruled TV for a long time. It was high time we entered the brain rot of turning them into fusion sweets, simple sweets, and cute and beloved Japanese sweets to match them.

Pudding – Nobita

It’s a miracle how Nobita even survives, given his family is neither rich nor does he have any redeeming qualities like being intelligent, good in school, or having good physical strength. His case is so miserable, that his grandson from the future sends him a robot to help him with his sad little life. There is no delicate way to put it, Nobita is an utter simpleton and sticks out like a sore thumb among the high achiever typical of Japan. But he is like regular kids, despite the lack of ambition, constant bullying, and reprimands he faces. He’s a simple vanilla pudding whose life changes after the blue cat robot appears, as a berry coulis added to a simple pudding.

Dorayaki – Doraemon

Dorayaki

This one’s hardly a surprise, the Dora Cakes seen in the Hindi dub that Doraemon literally goes ballistic over, are actually Dorayaki, which is a simple treat of fluffy twin pancakes with a sweet filling inside. As for Doraemon, he’s a neurotic robot who is always acting like the fill-in parent figure for Nobita which worries the robot a lot. The other times, he is seen going out with his feline girlfriend, or back to the future to run errands or for other things that need him. Doraemon like Nobita evolves both influencing each other as siblings do.

Strawberry Mousse – Shizuka

If there was a definition of the perfect girl, by the Japanese standard of a kid, it would be Shizuka who is great at school, is loved by everyone, and has a neat and clean home and a cute appearance. Even the bullies who bully Nobita hold her in high regard and have a crush on her. One word from Shizuka and they get all warm in the face and tend to do what she asks. For Shuzuka in her all-pink dress, a strawberry mousse is perfect, fitting right in with her girly charm that makes the hormonal boys stop in their tracks.

Chocolate Chip Cookie – Gian

When you look up the parents for each of them, especially Gian, it makes sense why he’s a bully and also can’t seem to mend his ways until given a good beating. He uses the same violence towards his friends, especially the weak Nobita, to assert his dominance and make everyone listen to him. That makes him brittle like a well-done chocolate chip cookie, which tends to snap with too much pressure, like Gian’s anger.

Lemon Tart – Suneo

Lemon Tart

The rich kid among his friends, Suneo has a fox-like face, something his entire family suffers from. More than once, this is shoved in the watcher's face. With his sleek toys, expensive gadgets, and posh holidays, Suneo is a big show-off and a bully alongside Gian; the latter also bullies him for his toys. Lemon desserts are unique, their sweet and refreshing flavor is not favored by everyone and people who tend to like them have refined taste. He should’ve been a plain sour lemon, but we are hardly a vegetable market, so we picked lemon tart for this fox.

Matcha Cake – Dekisugi

The poor studious Dekisugi was the target of Nobita’s ire because he often hung out with his crush, Shizuka, often for studies or to be fellow nerds together. Besides Shizuka Nobita does not suffer or jealousy, even though Dekisugi is an ace student who is studious and also a good sportsperson. He’s a model student as well as a kid which has elevated him into a ‘prince’ especially among the girls in his school. No wonder Nobita gets mad because Shizuka isn't impartial to his charms. For the cute little nerd character, a matcha cake is perfect!

Mochi – Dorami

Mochi

If Doraemon is a worrywart when it comes to Nobita, Dorami plays a similar role towards her older cat robot brother, Doraemon. She’s known to throw tantrums and she shares a great bond with her brother Doraemom, but he is slightly wary of her visits, for she tends to school him of his wayward ways. Otherwise, she is a kind and gentle yellow robot sporting the same bell collar as her brother. For this sweet robot, a chewy and sweet mochi is just perfect.
