From a 30minute dark chocolate biscuit recipe to a chocolate swirl biscuit recipe, these dark chocolate at home biscuit recipes will make sure you have the perfect snacky and sweet homemade biscuits at the tip of your fingers for at least one week if you batchmake them.
1. Quick Dark Chocolate Biscuits
(Makes 10 biscuits)
Ingredients
- 200 gm Cadbury Bournville dark chocolate, chopped
- 125 gm butter, cubed
- 150 gm caster sugar
- 100 gm brown sugar
- 2 eggs, room temperature
- 3 tbsp Cadbury cocoa powder
- 130 gm allpurpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- Flaky salt for sprinkling, optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 160°C, if you have a fanassisted oven, or 170°C for a conventional oven. Then line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Fill a saucepan with a few inches of water and bring it to a simmer, then place a large heatproof bowl with dark chocolate and butter and place it over the simmering water. Stir occasionally until melted and smooth.
- In a mediumsized bowl, add caster sugar, light brown sugar, and eggs, and use an electric hand whisk on high speed, to beat, for three to five minutes, until light and fluffy.
- Carefully pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the bowl with the whipped egg and sugar mixture. Use the electric whisk again to mix.
- Sift the dry ingredients into the whipped ingredients and using a rubber spatula, fold just until no dry flour is visible.
- Scoop and drop the dough onto your prepared baking tray with enough between each for the biscuits to spread during baking. Sprinkle a small amount of flaky salt over each dough, if using.
- 7. Bake for about 12 minutes. The biscuits should have firm edges but still be soft in the center.
- Once baked, remove the tray from the oven and leave the biscuits on the tray for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, transfer the biscuits to a wire rack to cool completely.
2. Chocolate Swirl Biscuits
(Makes 10 biscuits)
Ingredients
Dough
- 240 gm allpurpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 70 gm cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 180 ml whole milk
Filling
- 3 tbsp butter, softened
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 115 gm Cadbury Bournville Dark Chocolate, finely chopped
Topping (optional):
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 tbsp whole milk
- Sugar for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl using a whisk.
- Add the cubed butter to the and using your fingertips, work the butter into the flour mixture, until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour the milk next and use a fork to stir the ingredients until a loose, sticky dough forms.
- Sprinkle some flour onto a clean work surface and transfer the dough to it. Dust your hands with flour and knead the dough 810 times by folding it over on itself and pressing down gently.
- Flour your work surface again and using a rolling pin, roll out a 13 x 11 inches rectangle. Position the dough so that the long side is facing you.
- Spread the butter evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the sugar, then distribute the chopped chocolate over the dough.
- Start from the long edge closest to you, and roll the dough up into a tight cylinder, similar to making a Swiss roll. Once rolled, use a sharp knife to cut into 10 equal sections.
- Place the cut sections on the prepared baking sheet, with two inches of space between them.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolk with milk and use a pastry brush to apply this mixture over the tops of the biscuits. Sprinkle a little sugar over each biscuit.
- Place the baking sheet in your preheated oven and bake for about 18 minutes. The biscuits should be golden brown and puffed up when done.
- Once baked, take out biscuits from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. Serve them warm with some butter on the side or with tea.
