HomeArticlesFruit Desserts For The Summer: Try New Sweet Recipes Like These Sushi Rolls
Here are some dessert sushi recipes that you can create at home.
Sushi was created during the Edo period in Japan by a man named Hanaya Yohei. Sushi is typically made with seafood and vegetables that are wrapped in sticky rice seasoned with vinegar, sugar, and salt. The seafood can be raw or cooked, so can the vegetables. There are so many iterations of sushi now that include non-traditional, Western ingredients such as mayonnaise, beef, chicken, and cream cheese.
People are also experimenting with Indian ingredients and flavors like paneer (cottage cheese), butter chicken, lentils, and spices. Purists may not be in favor of these innovative changes, but ultimately the combinations are well thought out of, resulting in something truly delicious. Then there are dessert versions of sushi too that use fruit, chocolate, rice flavored with sweetened coconut, and more! Here are some easy sweet recipes at home for dessert sushi for you to make.
Fresh Fruit Sushi
Ingredients:
- 450 ml water
- 300 gm sushi rice
- 3 tbsp sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 225 ml coconut milk
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- Fruits like mango, peaches, grapes, and kiwis
Instructions:
- Rinse the rice under running water three times till the water is no longer cloudy.
- In a pot, add rice along with 450 ml of water, sugar and salt. Simmer this and then let it cook for 12 to 15 minutes.
- The rice will absorb all of the water and become soft.
- Add all of the coconut milk to the warm rice and spread evenly onto a baking paper lined tray.
- Cut fruits into long strips so that they can be rolled easily into sushi rolls.
- To make the roll, spread a rectangle of cling wrap, add a thin enough layer of coconut sticky rice, and add the strips of fruit.
- Cover about ⅔ of the rice layer and slowly roll into a sausage. This is a slow and steady process so there’s no need to rush.
- Once the sushi roll is done, you can chill it in a fridge for 15-20 minutes and then cut into even, bite-sized pieces.
Oreo Sushi
Ingredients:
- 24 Cadbury Oreos
- 5 tbsp milk
Instructions:
- Open every biscuit and scrape the white filling into a bowl.
- Place the scraped biscuits in a food processor until you get fine crumbs.
- Add 3 tablespoons of milk to create a firm dough. If you feel like the dough is still crumbly, add another tablespoon of milk.
- Once done, refrigerate it for 10-15 minutes, then place between two sheets of cling film and roll it out as thin as you like.
- Trim the sides of the dough to get a clean rectangular shape.
- For the filling, add the remaining milk to the Oreo cream and whisk until smooth. You can also add chocolate chips if you want a crunch.
- Gently and evenly spread the cream over the Oreo dough, and roll into a spiral.
- Place the log in the fridge for an hour to set. Then cut into sushi pieces, dust in powdered sugar and enjoy.
