Method:
1. Prepare the Base:
In a food processor, mix rolled oats, almond butter, honey (or maple syrup), Bournvita, shredded coconut, ground flaxseeds, chia seeds, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend the ingredients until they form a sticky and uniform dough-like consistency.
2. Add Dark Chocolate Chips (Optional):
If you want to enhance the chocolatey goodness, fold in a some dark chocolate chips into the dough. This step is optional but adds a gooey texture and extra flavor. Not to mention, Bournvita’s malted taste really plays up the bitter notes if you settle on some dark chocolate, so if possible go for baking-grade chocolate
3. Shape into Bites:
Roll small portions of the mixture into bite-sized balls. You can use your hands to shape them. Ensure they are compact and hold together well. Using some butter to glaze your hands is a good idea, it makes it easier for you to form the cicrula shape. You can also use a hint of vegetable oil
4. Chill:
Place the Bournvita bites on a tray lined with parchment paper and refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes. Chilling helps the bites firm up. Remember to not freeze the boites since it can lead to uneven consistency and some bits may remain frozen when you consume them
5. Store:
Once the Bournvita bites have set, transfer them to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for a firmer texture or at room temperature for a fudgier bite
1. Nut Butter Choices:
Use natural nut butter without added sugars or oils. Almond butter, peanut butter, or cashew butter are great choices. They complement chocolate flavours and also enhance their taste. Oat milk can be a good option too, you can blend in some oat milk with almond or cashew milk for an interesting nuttiness. Avoid coconut milk in this recipe as it may not mesh well with all ingredients
2. Sweeteners:
Go for natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup which offer a more layered taste
3. Whole Ingredients:
Choose whole and unprocessed ingredients. Rolled oats, ground flaxseeds, and chia seeds add fiber and nutrients to the bites.
4. Texture Variation:
Experiment with the texture by adding nuts, seeds, or dried fruit. This not only enhances the nutritional profile but also provides a satisfying crunch.
