Chocolate samosa, blue cheese ice cream, and Oreo Halwa - Would you try these unusual combinations of desserts?
There are some very brave experimenters out there who are willing to test the boundaries of what is accepted and what isn’t. Trying these unusual desserts may not entirely satisfy your sweet tooth, but it will take you on a culinary adventure where you embrace the unexpected.
There is certainly an element of surprise in the final product when it comes to making something perceived as weird, bizarre, and strange. Your experiment may not always taste the best, and you might just have to throw it in the bin, but the sense of accomplishment that comes with trying something new also matters here.
The combinations of sweet and savory in small doses are great if you find a fine balance. Mixing traditional sweets with modern or Western elements can also bear surprisingly tasty results. But, are you ready to give these combinations a chance?
Chocolate Samosa
Ingredients:
- ½ cup of chopped Dairy milk chocolate of your choice
- ½ packet of readymade samosa sheets
- 1 tbsp of flour with 3 tbsp water
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Fold the chocolate into a triangular shape using the sheets.
- Seal them shut by applying a slurry made of flour and water.
- Place the samosas in the fridge to chill.
- Heat the oil in a pan, and fry the samosas one by one.
Chocolate Instant Noodles
Ingredients:
- 1 small chocolate bar
- 1 tbsp of butter
- 1 packet of instant noodles
- 1 packet of sugar coated chocolate discs for garnish
- 1 cup of water
Instructions:
- Boil a cup of water and then add the noodles to it.
- Keep an eye on the noodles to ensure they are not overcooked. Drain any excess water.
- In a microwave-safe container, melt some butter and the chopped chocolate, being careful not to burn the chocolate.
- Place the noodles in a bowl and mix in the melted chocolate. Garnish with chocolate chips.
Chocolate-covered French Fries
Ingredients:
- 1-2 cups of frozen french fries
- 1 cup of chopped dark chocolate
- 1 cup of chopped white chocolate
- 2 tbsp of unsalted butter
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Take the French fries out of the freezer and let them thaw for at least 10-15 minutes before starting this experiment.
- Heat oil in a deep kadai and fry the fries until golden brown. Do salt them immediately.
- Melt butter in a bowl along with the dark chocolate, monitoring to ensure it doesn't burn. Simultaneously, in another bowl, melt butter and white chocolate, keeping a close eye on it as well.
- Place the fries in a bowl and liberally drizzle them with both white and dark chocolate.
Chocolate-covered Potato Chips
Ingredients:
- 1 packet of plain salted potato chips
- 1 tbsp of butter
- 1 cup of Cadbury dark chocolate
Instructions:
- Melt half of the chocolate and butter in a sufficiently large microwave-safe bowl. Stir to remove any lumps.
- Take it out of the microwave and mix in the rest of the chopped chocolate. Grating the chocolate can expedite the melting process.
- Once the chocolate dip is prepared, dip the potato chips into the mixture. It's advisable to use tongs or a fork instead of your bare hands.
- You can either dip all of the chips or just one half of each.
- Place them on a wire rack and allow them to cool in the fridge.
Oreo Suji Halwa
Ingredients:
- 1 packet of Oreo biscuits
- 2 tbsp of ghee
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
- ½ cup of semolina
- 1 cup of milk
- ½ cup of sugar
- 1 tbsp of roasted cashew
- 1 tbsp of roasted pistachios
- 1 tbsp of roasted almonds
Instructions:
- First, crush the Oreos into fine crumbs.
- Then, melt the ghee in a saucepan and add the semolina. Stir for about 10 minutes or until the semolina is fragrant.
- Stir in the milk, followed by the sugar, spices, Oreos, and the nuts.
- Keep stirring until the Oreos are fully incorporated, and you achieve a dark-colored halwa.
- Garnish with some more nuts and serve.
Blue Cheese Ice Cream
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of crumbled blue cheese
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 cup of cream
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp crushed white peppercorns
Instructions:
- Simmer the cream and milk in a heavy-bottomed saucepan with the peppercorns.
- Add half of the crumbled cheese, followed by lemon and sugar, off the heat.
- Whisk until there are no chunks of cheese left.
- Refrigerate for four hours, whisking every two hours. Then add the remaining cheese and whisk again.
- Repeat this process for a couple more hours until your batter resembles ice cream.
