When puff pastry and chocolate meet, dessert magic happens. With buttery layers and a rich chocolate filling, these treats are pure indulgence. Puff pastry makes dessert-making effortless—whip up something delicious in no time! With minimal effort, you'll be able to whip up some delicious treats in no time. While you can indulge in the goodness of a rich Cadbury cake, try chocolate puff pastries for a change. So, let’s dive in!

1: Decadent Chocolate Puff Pastry Twists

These twists are crunchy, buttery, and stuffed with ooey-gooey chocolate. They look impressive, yet they’re deceptively easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 250 gm puff pastry sheet
  • 150 gm cadbury bournville dark chocolate (roughly chopped or use chocolate chips)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 30 gm granulated sugar
  • 20 gm unsalted butter (melted)
  • 20 gm powdered sugar (for dusting)

Procedure:

  1. To prepare the puff pastry, preheat your oven to 200°C. Roll out your puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases. If it's pre-rolled, skip this step.
  2. The next step is to spread the melted butter across the puff pastry sheet using a pastry brush. Now, sprinkle your granulated sugar all over that buttery canvas. Next, sprinkle the chopped dark chocolate (or chocolate chips) generously on one-half of the puff pastry. Since you are making it at home, you can use a generous amount of chocolate like you do while making a Chocolate Mousse.
  3. Give shape to your pastry. Fold the non-chocolate half of the pastry over the chocolate-laden half, pressing gently to seal. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the pastry into 2 cm-wide strips. Twist each strip gently from both ends to create, well, twists.
  4. Now comes the important part. Place the twists on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the twists for that golden, crispy shine. Bake at 200°C for 15-20 minutes or until your twists are puffed up, and golden, and your kitchen smells like a chocolatier’s dream.
  5. Once they’re out of the oven and have cooled just a smidge, dust the twists with powdered sugar. You can also dip it in pre-prepared Chocolate Fondue for added effects.

2: Chocolate-Filled Puff Pastry Pillows

These chocolate pillows are fluffy on the outside with a gooey chocolate center, giving a fine experience of the puff pastry and chocolate symphony.

Ingredients:

  • 250 gm Puff pastry sheet
  • 120 gm Milk chocolate (chopped)
  • 50 ml Heavy cream
  • 1 large Egg (for egg wash)
  • 5 ml Vanilla extract (optional, but highly recommended)
  • 15 gm Coarse sugar (for sprinkling)

Procedure:

  1. Set your oven to 200°C to preheat. This is the important step that is required to prepare your oven for baking.
  2. Now, it’s time to make the filling: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer, not boil! Remove from the heat and immediately pour over the chopped milk chocolate in a bowl. Stir until the chocolate melts into a velvety, shiny ganache. Add a dash of vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
  3. Cut the Puff Pastry and roll out the sheet on a floured surface. Slice it into squares, roughly 10cm x 10cm.
  4. It’s time to add the chocolate. Spoon a generous dollop of the chocolate ganache into the center of each puff pastry square, enough to make each bite magical, but not so much that it oozes everywhere like a Choco Lava Cake.
  5. This step is important because you need to seal in the filling of your pastry. Fold the squares over diagonally to create triangles, pressing the edges firmly with a fork to seal in that chocolate goodness. Clean cuts make the puff pastry look all the more appetizing.
  6. Egg Wash and Sugar Sprinkle: Brush each pillow with egg wash and sprinkle a bit of coarse sugar on top for that bakery-style crunch.
  7. Bake your pastries to golden perfection. Place your pillows on a parchment-lined baking tray and bake at 200°C for 12-15 minutes or until puffed, golden, and slightly crispy at the edges.
  8. Let these delicacies cool for a minute or two before digging in.

Based on your preferences, here are some fun ideas:

  • Chopped hazelnuts mixed with the chocolate filling will give a nutty taste to the dessert.
  • A pinch of cinnamon or cayenne in the chocolate will create a dessert with a little kick.
  • Add a slice of banana or a few raspberries with the chocolate, if you like the freshness of fruits in your dessert.
