Quench Your Thirst With These Creamy Summer Milky Drinks: Easy Sweet Recipes At Home

As summer is raging on our heads at the moment, turning to a cold glass of milk along with your breakfast, as a snack or even a nightcap is probably a good choice. It’s also healthier than fizzy drinks that are full of artificial flavoring and sugars. If you’re bored of drinking just plain milk, then here are some refreshing and irresistible milky drink recipes that you can have to switch things up.

Did you know that World Milk Day is commemorated every year on June 1 worldwide? It’s an initiative by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization (FOA) to shed light on how important the milk and dairy industry is for the global economy. Besides that, this initiative also encourages the consumption of milk for its many health benefits.

Try these milky easy sweet recipes at home!

Mango Lassi (India)

Ingredients:

  • 1 large sweet mango
  • 240 gm yogurt
  • 120 ml milk
  • 2-3 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder
  • Lots of ice

Instructions: 

  • Chop and peel the mango, it’s preferable if you chill the fruit ahead in time. 
  • Put it in a high-speed blender along with yogurt, milk, sugar, ice, and cardamom powder. 
  • Blend well until you achieve a thick smoothie-like consistency. 
  • Pour into a tall glass and enjoy sipping on it. 

Banana Milk (South Korea) 

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 120 ml milk
  • 120 ml water
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup 
  • Drop of vanilla extract

Instructions: 

  • Use cold ingredients for the banana milk before you pop them in a high-speed blender until well combined and mixed. 
  • You can adjust for sweetness, and thin down the consistency of the milk depending on your preference. 

Iced Tea with Milk (Thailand) 

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp loose leaf black tea
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ vanilla pod
  • 240 ml water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp condensed milk 

Instructions: 

  • Crush the anise and cardamom slightly to let their aroma out. 
  • Steep the tea leaves along with the spices, cinnamon powder and vanilla pod in boiling water. This should take about 3 to 5 minutes. The longer you steep the tea and spices in water, the deeper the flavor and aroma you’ll get. 
  • Then strain the tea into a tall glass with lots of ice, and add sugar and condensed milk to it. 

Corn Milk (Vietnam)

Ingredients:

  • 710 g sweet corn kernels
  • 1.43 ltr water 
  • 240 ml milk 
  • 20 soaked and peeled almonds 
  • 60 g sugar

Instructions: 

  • Blend sweet corn kernels along with the soaked almonds in a blender until you get a fine paste. 
  • Add water to it to make it easier to sieve through a muslin cloth or a nut bag. 
  • Ensure that all of the liquid from the paste. 
  • Put it back in the blender along with sugar and milk. 
  • Pour the liquid into a jug and refrigerate. Enjoy it chilled on a sunny day. 

Koldskål - cold buttermilk soup (Denmark)

Ingredients:

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 ltr yogurt
  • 1 ltr buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice 

Instructions: 

  • Whisk sugar and eggs until you get a light and fluffy mixture. Then add the vanilla extract to this. 
  • Next add yogurt in batches and combine well every time. 
  • Lastly, add all of the buttermilk and lemon juice, and mix well. 
  • Top this interesting cold soup with some blueberries and strawberries. 

The last recipe is a cocktail that you can have as a nightcap. 

Milk Punch

Ingredients:

  • 6 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp bourbon whiskey
  • 1 tbsp brandy
  • 1 tbsp simple syrup
  • ½ tsp vanilla

Instructions: 

  • Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and give this a good shake until fully chilled. 
  • Strain the drink into a whiskey glass, and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon powder.
