Barbie is an introvert for a change, bearing a close resemblance to Belle from Beauty and the Beast, who just loves reading and avoiding the public eye, by holding in her room and walking around in her garden. This leads her to a good adventure, a secret door to the magical kingdom of Zinnia, aided by her grandmother’s book. She enters as their savior and comes out completely transformed, like how the humble ingredients of a dessert transform into delicious desserts. So we, are turning some of the characters from this Barbie-verse into desserts!

Chocolate Souffle – Princess Alexa

An underconfident and shy princess who steps on others’ toes and buries her face in books and loves daydreaming, it’s a pleasure to watch her transformation throughout the film. She finally gets to live out her ultimate fantasy when her grandmother hands her a magical book that holds a secret prophecy. When the Kingdom of Zinnia is in crisis, it is in her hands and her little wand tucked into her hair, to save the Kingdom from its greedy little Princess. Princess Alexa is a delicate chocolate souffle, she even mentions this dessert in one of her songs! It takes courage and faith in yourself to be the savior the people need, and the same applies to making one of the hardest chocolate desserts, a delicate souffle, with its hard-to-master rise.

Sorbet – Romy

There is always a slow, clumsy, and dimwitted character in most Barbie movies, in this one, it’s Romy. Minus her mermaid tail, she was off-kilter and kept falling on her face. She’s the softer one between her fairy friends, while Nori is more alert and on her feet. She’s introduced with a bow and arrow set, shooting the arrows everywhere but the target. She’s a soft and melty sorbet which tends to give you a brain freeze if you bite into a big spoonful of it. But in the end, it cools you down and is refreshing, like how sweet Romy and Alexa’s parting was.

Creme Brulee – Nori

She might have lost her magic, but not her wits, she’s tough and protective and a quick-witted fairy, who appears a little rude initially, think of this as the thin sugar disc on the dessert. But once she learns that Alexa is a princess and can save her and her friends, she quickly warms up to her. That reminds us of the smooth taste of the baked creme brulee, one of the classic French desserts, that is sheer perfection in terms of looks and also taste.

Muffins – Bouncies

Muffins are simply awesome like the Bouncies, who are introduced as a trio of magical creatures with ping springs attached to them, which they use to bounce away. Add some dark chocolate bits into them and you have yourself a simple yet one of the most sumptuous dark chocolate desserts. Muffins are also small and over in a few or more bites and we couldn’t think of a better set of desserts for these adorable little creatures with big googly eyes.

Lava Cake – Malucia

Most princesses would have fun or run around the castle if their parents, the King and Queen went on vacation, but no Malucia. Her insecurity of not being born with magic made her ballistic and she started stealing magic from the very Kingdom she would rule one day. She’s a kid if her size is considered and just wants to celebrate after being able to be the most powerful being, after sucking out all magic from the land and its creatures. She puts up a front in front of her parents, as seen later, and bosses around the palace staff while bullying the subjects. For the volatile princess with a fragile ego, a delicate chocolate lava cake, from the world of chocolate cake desserts, is perfect with its molten center and collapsible sides.

Cinnamon Rolls – Sniffers

Every Barbie movie has one or more little or bigger cronies working for the antagonist to terrorize or capture the protagonist and her friends. The Sniffers are the two spies or hounds of Malucia, a pair of siblings, who look like if anteaters were turned coiled vegetal buds, with long snouts to sniff out magic. Cinnamon rolls are perfect for them as they share the same coiling feature and are harmless creatures basically, which makes them comfort characters in a way. This was proved when they sniffed Alexa on demand and found the aroma of her magic to be scintillating and heady, like how the smell of baked cinnamon rolls tends to be.
