Pizzas are one of those dishes that are universal favorites. For some, they are comfort foods and for others, indulgences that they partake in sometimes. Some see pizzas as their go to meal and for others, it's their favorite thing to order in. Although originating from Italy, pizzas have spread all over the world and so have been adapted by locals to suit different sensibilities. For instance, Americans often prefer the thick base with a variety of toppings like fries or meat. In India, pizza is slightly sweeter and is often made without onion and garlic to suit cultural sensibilities. Pizza is easy to adapt and easier to love.

So why should dessert enthusiasts sit back? That’s right. Today, we’re going to talk about dessert pizzas. They are, above all, a culinary adventure you should explore at least one time in your life. Either it’s not for you, or you could fall madly in love with the concept. Imagine a crispy base topped with a rich and decadent chocolate sauce, and topped with fresh strawberries, banana slices, chocolate chips, marshmallows and other toppings depending on your preference. We have for you a cream cheese dessert recipe to a chocolate dessert recipe.

So here’s a few recipes you can try.

First up, a cinnamon dessert pizza

Ingredients:

  • 1 unbaked pizza crust
  • 250 gms of flour
  • 57 gms of sugar
  • 76 gms of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 57 gms of butter, softened to room temperature
  • 170 gms of powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of milk

Directions:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 400° F and lightly grease a pizza pan.
  • Roll your pie crust out into a 12-inch circle and place on your pizza pan. You can make it a little smaller or bigger depending on your preference/ the size of your pizza pan.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter. Mix until there are small chunks of butter left about the size of peas. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly all of the prepared pie crust.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the edges of the crust are lightly browned.
  • To make the drizzle topping, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until fully combined. Add a little extra sugar OR milk depending on if you want the drizzle to be a little thinner or a little thicker.
  • Slice and enjoy.

Another favourite among dessert pizzas is the chocolate chip dessert pizza.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 185 gm all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon instant yeast
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 155 ml warm water

Sauce

  • 225 gm cream cheese
  • 50 gm sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 175 gm mini chocolate chips

Streusel

  • 3 Tablespoons butter melted
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup + 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 65 gm sugar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar tightly packed

Directions:

Crust

  • Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C) and line a pizza pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, and salt and stir well.
  • Add water and stir until ingredients are mostly combined. Use your hands to continue to combine until the dough is cohesive enough to form a ball.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes (until elastic). If needed, add additional flour 1 tablespoon at a time if dough is too sticky and sticks stubbornly to your hands.
  • Roll dough out into a 12” circle and transfer to prepared pizza pan. Pinch edges or gently fold over to form a crust.

Toppings

  • Prepare your cream cheese sauce by cutting your cream cheese into 8 pieces and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 10 second intervals, stirring between each, until cream cheese is easy to stir.
  • Add sugar and vanilla extract, stir well.
  • Spread cream cheese evenly over pizza dough.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly overtop and press/spread into the sauce.

Streusel

  • Add vanilla extract to melted butter, stir, and set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, use a fork to mix together flour and sugars.
  • Add butter mixture and use a fork to combine until mixture resembles coarse crumbles.
  • Sprinkle evenly over pizza
  • Bake pizza in 500°F (260°C) oven for 7 minutes or until streusel turns a golden brown.
  • Remove from oven, allow to cool for several minutes, then slice and serve.

Notes:

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. Leftover dessert pizza can be enjoyed warm or cold.
