After being fired and dumped on the same day during the shooting of Princess and the Pea, a disheartened Barbie goes home to visit her Aunt, in the birthplace of haute couture, Paris, who owns her own label and store. There begins her tryst with magic, which motivates her to save her aunt’s business by putting together a fashion show with fresh designs for an already failing business. We picked some of the most impactful, funny, and amusing characters, and guess what, they are desserts now! Expect a lot of French desserts, for the location mon amie is Paris!
In a bid to start over and get her life together after a double whammy on the same day, she takes off to Paris and finds magic, quite literally. She reinvents her Aunt’s doomed business, instills confidence in Alice, and also salvages herself in the process. This is what girlbossing should be, lifting others, while you also lift yourself from the dust to a glittery spectacle of redemption. For the industrious Barbie, nothing but the finely crafted Mille-Feuille will do, as he eats, lives, and breathes in her aunt’s studio for a chance to save the magic.
Why wouldn't Barbie have a white poodle who is chaotic but also refined, called Sequin? It turns out Aunt Millicent also had pets, a Jack Russell Terrier with a thick French accent called Jacques Roussel (very cheekily named) and a white Persian cat with snooty behavior towards Sequin called Jilliana. Jacques and Sequin make a razzmatazz pair that bothers Jilliana, but she gets over it. Towards the second half, she is seen lending a claw as Sequin lends a paw to designing clothes. Jacques the dog even comes up with tutus to dress both of them! For the cute pets, a trio of French profiteroles is just about perfect.
Millicent is Barbie’s aunt who runs a fashion line whose store is adorned with hues of pastel pink, and wrought iron racks and stairway handrails. She’s grounded and fun, like a rich wine aunt, and had made peace with retiring until Barbie came knocking. She makes a glamorous return, with her assistant surprising her with her talent. While she does end up helping the girls to make the comeback, she also keeps them in check to avoid disappointing them. She’s a rustic bread pudding
She is the arch nemesis of Millicent who runs her own fashion line, with a store facing off Millicent’s. Sticking to the norm, Jacqueline’s store has a color scheme of a sickly green and purple that settle against each other in chaotic disarray. She’s not an iconic villain in the Barbieverse. Can you imagine a Barbie villain reforming themselves? Jacqueline and Delphine both change in the end and request to learn from Millicent. That sounds like the taste of a sweet and tangy, cherry tart. Why not order in or bake one of the most loved cherry desserts?
Shyne, Shimmer, and Glimmer introduce themselves as Flairies for they are magical designers with a flair! With their help, two teens and a woman regain confidence and end on a spectacular finale with a fashion line wooing the toughest of critics. The little Glimmer with her wonky magical ball also finds her calling and beyond enhancing, she starts to transform anything her magical ball of glitter touches. For the Flairies, who have been behind many successful designers, a box of sophisticated macarons is perfect.
The assistant to Millicent, Tabitha is quite talented and thanks to her side hobby and interest in fashion, her own dress gets the stone rolling for the magic to be unleashed in the movie. She's nicknamed Alice and with the magical Flairies’ help, her designs are enhanced to dazzling heights. She's the one behind the iconic, “magic happens when you believe in yourself”, a saying that Barbie later ends with. The three women with the help of the Flairies make that come true. For the talented designer, nothing but the artsy Eclair will do.
Taking a break from princely roles, Ken takes a journey, that's hilarious to watch, just to clear a misunderstanding between him and Barbie. Imagine a kid blowing their nose on one jacket arm, a pig chewing the other one and missing your train stop because you slept off, and also missing the train back to the stop you missed, zero cabs to go back, and it starts to rain. One can only feel pity for the poor guy in love, who also wears cute heart-printed boxers, that an unfortunate rip exposed. From the realm of strawberry desserts, we pick a cute strawberry shortcake for Ken with sweetness in common between them. The chaos in his journey is akin to the strawberry desserts’ non-so-staple appearance. With his determination to make things right, even after everything that happens, more happening on the way, he makes it through. Find yourself like a strawberry shortcake Ken like Barbie. *Sigh*
