We turned the oldish Jetsons cartoon series into desserts, which range from the likes of choco lava cake in mug to parfait and trifle
Playing into the old American peak baby boomer stereotypes, The Jetsons made that look futuristic by whizzing around in a spaceship instead of a car. Perhaps that world is not too utopic given that a 3-day work week might not be that utopian an idea, in this day. Wide-eyed kids might’ve watched it a long time ago, and one of those kids might just be you. For you, we brought back nostalgia and imagined another utopic world where the Jetsons characters exist as desserts and get about their business.
Carrot Cake – George Jetson
The head of the family of the Jetsons, George looks like Droopy the Dog turned human and put on clothes. However, unlike the dog, he’s a little slow and ends up in situations uncalled for, despite having good intentions. He’s a typical Boomer dad, frowning when his wife Jane takes more money than he’s offering (the intro), the star pitcher at his high school Spaceball team, and of course, he traveled 10 miles to be able to go to school, through a storm of asteroids no less. He’s a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, the former representing the family man he is now and the cream cheese the former days of his swashbuckling youth.
Trifle – Jane Jetson
She and her daughter are quite similar when it comes to loving fashion and tech that makes life easier for them. She has striking auburn hair styled into a strange mustache-like wavy bob, and if Daphne from Scooby Doo was in the future, she’d possibly resemble Jane. She’s seen as a homemaker and takes care of chores and in her free time, loves shopping. However, she is the head of a recycling company, which for some reason is shown to not involve much work. Like most frustrated moms, she is burdened with a husband and kids who depend on her to be their alarm clock every morning. A sweet and trifling trifle for this supportive character who adores her family despite them getting on her nerves often.
Cake Pop – Astro
Did you know the same voice actor for Astro also did Scooby Doo’s voice? It would make sense why they sound alike and share some resemblance to each other as well, in the Jetsons, Astro’s BFF is George, and also Elroy, who adores him. He can speak and seldom causes comical scenes with his flair or dramatics and attention-seeking behavior, typical of dogs. He’s a fun cake pop, a chocolate one at that to symbolize the bond he shares with his adopted family. He abandoned his rich owners to pick the Jetsons after all, like how cake pops tend to be made with leftover cake crumbs, to make a delicious treat.
Parfait – Judy Jetson
Every stereotypical show needs its girl next door, in the Jetsons family, it’s Judy who is a high schooler and the apple of her father’s eye. Like most girls her age, she’s into fashion, boys, looking up cool posters, rock stars, and listening to the radio. Thankfully she’s not self-absorbed and finds time to indulge her little brother who loves inventing stuff. For perfectly playing into such a stereotype of a teenager, she’s a sweet and perfect parfait, which is a medley of different elements just like Judy’s many interests that keep her occupied.
Chocolate Chip Cookies – Elroy Jetson
The youngest in the Jetson household, he’s smart as a cookie, and goes to the Little Dipper School, as seen in the intro, where his dad launches him in a mini space capsule, with a trajectory to his school. Despite being the youngest, he’s not spoilt instead using his littlehood to become an expert in space, for his age that is. His adorable little self is a chocolate chip cookie and adores Astro, who followed him home one fine day when he was playing in a park.
Coffee Cake – Rosey the Robot
She gets the job done as expected as any robot housekeeper. For an industrious worker who keeps the Jetson family running, an energizing coffee cake is a perfect dessert for this old but hardworking robot. While motor oil or electric cake would be perfect, but, there are no such desserts, so human fuel, in the form of a delicious dessert. Try this coffee mug cake the next time you need a little sugar rush or zap of energy like the tireless Rosey. She might be an outdated model, but she’s an inseparable part of the Jetsons family.
Lava Cake – Cosmo Spacely
Every cartoon needs its evil being, and Cospo Spacely is the overbearing and short-tempered boss, who keeps the show lively. He’s the owner of Spacely Space Sprockets, Inc. where he can be seen raging around sometimes, going off at George Jetsons, his employee. He is a tiny man with a peeled-back hairstyle of barely there black hair and Chaplin's mustache. He deserves an honorable mention for his voice actor, Mel Blanc, who was behind many Walt Disney characters like Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, and Daffy Duck. For the mildly amusing boss, a lava cake is perfect with its molten center. If you fancy making one and are not in the mood to go big, we recommend trying choco lava cake in mug perfect for single portions.
