Some tips and tricks to keep in mind to create the perfect chocolate chip cookies:
- To ensure the wet ingredients mix well and the dough is strong, use butter that’s room temperature. If you store your butter in the fridge, let it sit out for a few hours and then start baking once it has thawed and reached room temperature.
- Fold in the dry ingredients well so that it's all evenly distributed. You don't want one bite with excessive salt in it or for the cookies to bake unevenly because the baking powder is all concentrated in one area.
- Once you mix the dry and wet ingredients together, do not overmix. The dough should be firm but not excessively so, or the cookies will be tough to bite into once ready.
- If you want slightly chewier and gooey cookies, leave them slightly underbaked instead of waiting for them to be baked fully. Also, let them sit on the hot baking sheet until cool so that they continue baking from the residue heat but don't get too crunchy. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool further.
- Instead of chocolate chips, you can experiment with different types of add ins like chocolate nibs, pieces of a chocolate bar, or some other addition. You can also add nuts or dry fruits for a more fun experience and if you want to add more flavor and texture to your cookies.
- Scoop out dough depending on the size of cookies you want. If you want small cookies, half a spoon worth of dough is enough. If you want large cookies, a full scoop is preferable. Press them slightly in the middle so that the dough balls flatten a bit. And leave space between each ball since they will need space to spread out into cookies.
- The cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you don't want to make the cookies in one go, you can also freeze the dough and bring out a little at a time to bake one or two cookies. Make sure the dough has thawed at room temperature before popping it in the oven.
