There are plenty of experimenters on Instagram who want to make the ghastliest dishes with noodles. We’re talking about adding cola, crushed cookies, and even milk chocolate in instant ramen. Unsurprisingly, these dishes are a flop. These amateur IG chefs usually end up chucking these in the bin after a bite. But the ones we are going to talk about below are tried and tested dishes that have been enjoyed by generations. They have delicate and complex flavors, a result of years and years of mastering the recipe. Try the most delicious dessert recipes below at home and also serve them at your next dinner party.
Darsaan
Ingredients:
- To make flat noodles: 240 g flour
- ⅛ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp melted butter
- Water for kneading
For the honey sauce:
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
For serving:
- 1-2 scoops vanilla ice cream
Instructions:
- Sift flour, salt, and baking powder into a large mixing bowl.
- Then add some melted butter into this. Add a tablespoon at a time into the flour and mix well.
- You will ultimately achieve a soft dough. Cover the dough with a kitchen towel and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- Divide the dough into equal halves, then roll each ball into a 9 inch circle.
- Cut every strip from the circle into flat noodles with a pizza cutter or a knife.
- Prick every strip with a fork so the noodles don’t puff up when you deep fry them.
- Heat the oil in a deep bottomed vessel and then fry the strips until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Drain the strips on a kitchen towel.
- To make the honey sauce, add water, sugar, and honey in a saucepan, and bring to a boil.
- Once the liquid comes to a boil, lower the heat and let it thicken slightly.
- Take the pan off heat, and mix in the sesame seeds.
- Assemble the dessert while the honey syrup is still hot. Don’t let it sit otherwise it will thicken.
- Create a bed of crispy flat noodles, add a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream, then drizzle generously with the honey sauce.
- You can also garnish the dish with some slivered almonds if you like.
Cinnamon Noodle Kugel
Ingredients:
- 454 g wide noodles
- 5 eggs
- 2-3 tsp ground cinnamon
- 100 g sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 720 ml applesauce
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 190 C then grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with some melted butter or oil.
- Partially cook the noodles for 5 minutes in a pot of boiling water. Drain them and then rinse with some cold water.
- Then create a mixture with beaten eggs, sugar, salt, ground cinnamon, and applesauce.
- Coat the vessel you cooked the noodles in with 2 tbsp of vegetable oil.
- Then add the noodles back along with the beaten egg mix. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top.
- Transfer them into the greased baking dish and bake in the oven for 45 to 50 minutes.
- Once cooked, the noodles will look set and the top will be evenly brown and crisp.
- Enjoy the warm cinnamon kugel.
