Patoleo or patoli is basically steamed rice dumplings that is very popular in the Konkan region.
Made with rice, coconut and jaggery, it is wrapped and cooked in fragrant turmeric leaves that gives it a distinct flavor and aroma.
Patoli is traditionally prepared during the Shravan month particularly during festivals like Nagpanchami, Ganesh Chaturthi.
It is said to have originated in faraway Bengal as patoli is very similar to a Bengali dish called pitha.
It is widely relished in the western coast of India mainly Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
