Take a vanilla ice cream sandwich. Use a 2-inch cookie cutter or a sharp knife to carve out a 2-inch round portion from one end of each ice cream sandwich to make the basketballs.
Discard the two small trimmed corners from the “ball end” of the ice cream sandwich.
Repeat the process for the remaining sandwiches.
Take a baking sheet. Cover it with wax paper.
Place the basketballs and remaining ice cream sandwich pieces on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
Spoon the crushed Oreo Cookies into the pie plate.
One at a time, dip the cut edges of each ice cream sandwich into the cookie crumbs. Turn as needed to ensure that all the corners are evenly coated with the cookie crumbs.
Once done, return to the baking sheet. Gently press the crumbs into the ice cream, so they stay firm.
Freeze for 30 minutes or until firm.
Take a bowl. Add the red and yellow food colouring and the whipped cream. Stir well.
Spread the coloured whipped cream over the basketballs. Decorate the rounded sandwiches with the black decorating icing or gel in a manner that represents the outer covering of a basketball.
Decorate the remaining ice cream sandwich pieces with white decorating gel or icing to resemble basketball hoops.
Freeze for 30 minutes or until firm. Oreo Basketballs and Hoops Ice Cream Sandwiches are ready!
