The bond between Bengalis and Sondesh seems almost eternal. A part of rich gastronomic legacy, Sandesh, is closely tied to Portuguese settlers who arrived in Bengal in the 17th century. It is said that the Portuguese brought "chana or chena" to Bengal. However, it was the Moira community who started using the Chana along with the sugar or jaggery to make Shondesh.
Since then Sandesh transformed into an art form and today with over 100 varieties being sold, it has become an emotion!
