Ingredients

  • 250g puff pastry sheet
  • 150g dates
  • 50g walnuts
  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 tbsp honey

Method

  1. In a pan, melt 1 tbsp of butter. Add chopped dates and cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes until soft.
  2. Add chopped walnuts, brown sugar, cardamom powder and cinnamon powder. Mix well and let the filling cool.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a 12x8 inch rectangle.
  4. Place the date and walnut mixture in the center of the pastry, spread lengthwise to form a long strip. Leave 1.5 inches of space on either side.
  5. Cut diagonal slits (about 1 inch wide) on both sides of the pastry, stopping just before the filling. Fold the strips over the filling alternately to form a braid.
  6. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush with milk.
  7. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden.
  8. Drizzle with honey if you like.
  9. Let it cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy!
