  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 170 g softened, unsalted butter
  • 100 g granulated sugar
  • 100 g packed brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 120 ml sour cream
  • 2-3 tsp red food color

For the frosting:

  • 225 g cream cheese
  • 4 tbsp softened, unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 250 g icing sugar

For the decoration:

  • 30 g icing sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp red food color

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 176 C and then mine a 12 cupcake tin with paper liners.
  • Combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.
  • Mix both the sugars together, then cream then with the unsalted butter. Then add the three eggs, followed by vanilla extract, sour cream, and red food coloring.
  • Mix all of these well, then incorporate the dry ingredients in batches.
  • Fill every cupcake liner until it’s about ¾ full and bake in the oven for about 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Let the cupcakes cool in the liner for about 5 minutes, then remove from the tin and let them cool down further.
  • Create the frosting by whipping cream cheese, softened butter, vanilla extract, salt, and icing sugar. Add the icing sugar to the cream cheese in batches. The ultimate result should be a luscious frosting.
  • Once the cupcakes are completely cool, either use a piping bag or a spatula to cover the cupcakes with this icing.
  • For the decoration mix icing sugar with milk and the red food coloring. Increase the amount of food coloring you use for more pigment.
  • Drizzle this blood over the frosted cupcakes. You can place them in the fridge to completely cool down and the frosting to set.
