Ingredients

  • 1 cup almonds
  • 2 cups milk
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • 10–12 saffron strands

  • 1 cup water

Method

  1. Soak almonds in warm water for 4–5 hours, peel and grind into a smooth paste using 1 cup of milk.
  2. Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan and add the almond paste. Cook on low heat, stirring continuously, till fragrant.
  3. Add the remaining milk and water, stir well and cook till the mixture thickens.
  4. Add sugar and mix well. Cook till the sugar dissolves and the halwa leaves the sides of the pan.
  5. Add saffron milk and cardamom powder. Cook for 2–3 minutes. Serve hot, garnish with a few saffron strands or slivered almonds.
