Servings
For the Waffle:
- Flour – 1 Cup
- Cadbury Cocoa Powder – ¼ Cup
- Egg - 1
- Milk (slightly warm) – ¾ Cup
- Melted Butter (unsalted) – 3 Tablespoon
- Salt – A pinch
- Baking Powder – 1 Tablespoon
- Vanilla Essence – 1 Teaspoon
- Sugar – 3 Tablespoons
For the topping:
- Maple Syrup
- Whipped Cream (Optional) - ½ cup
- Strawberries or any fruit of your choice.
Directions
In a bowl, mix all wet ingredients separately – Milk, egg, vanilla essence and butter.
In separate bowl, mix all dry ingredients separately – Flour, Cocoa powder, Salt, Baking powder and Sugar.
Now add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix using hand whisk. Mix well till no lumps are formed. It is best to rest the mixture for at least half an hour after this.
Once the Waffle maker is heated to its desired temperature, put the mixture into it making sure that it does not overflow as the pancake will expand as it cooks.
Cook for about 3- 4 minutes or till you see steam coming out of the Waffle Maker. If you want the outside of the waffle to be crisper, cook for an extra minute.
Take the waffle out of the waffle maker and plate it up by adding a dollop of whipping cream on top, add fruits of your choice, and drizzle maple syrup on top and serve!
PRO-TIPS FOR THE PERFECT WAFFLE:
A smooth and lump-free batter is ideal so you don’t bite into flour pockets when you dig into your waffles.
Rest your batter so that the gluten can relax and your final product has a fluffy interior and a crispy exterior.
Preheating the waffle iron is important so that the batter doesn’t stick and burn.
Be cautious of how much better you’re ladling onto the iron because as the waffle cooks it will expand. A prudent helping of the batter is sufficient.
Waffles taste the best when served warm. They aren’t as dense as pancakes which means they don't retain heat for long and can quickly become cold.
Experiment with flavors: besides adding chocolate, you can use herb infused butters, buttermilk to add tang and moisture, or even a different grain other than refined flour.
Store the leftover batter in an airtight container in the fridge. Use it up within two days.
