Four Simple Recipes that You Can Make At Home Using Your Trusty Barbeque Grill

If you have an oven, a traditional tandoor (lucky you!) or even an electric grill at home, then you can try putting a smoky and warm spin on your desserts. Who said these tools can only be used to make barbecued meats and veggies? You can also extend the same treatment to sweet dishes, give them a nice char or use them to impart the smokiness of the coals. The barbecue can be an underrated tool for making desserts, and it's a fun party trick too. If you don't have one, you can replicate the flavor and grilling in your oven. That way, you won't have to worry too much about temperature control.

The recipes we've suggested below come together quickly and use readily available ingredients, so you don't have to worry too much about the preparation and cooking time. Whip out your barbecue and host an outdoor dinner party with your friends and family, or simply enjoy them on your own. Give these recipes a try!

Chocolate Baked Bananas

chopping-bananas-for-grilling

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe bananas (peeled)
  • ⅓ cup of Cadbury dark chocolate (chopped)
  • Vanilla ice cream

Instructions:

  • Prepare your barbeque grill by heating it, so you don’t have to wait too long to begin the cooking process.
  • In the meantime, make superficial slits on your ripe bananas. Do this carefully and patiently, ensuring not to chop them. The slits will allow the barbecue smoke to penetrate the bananas and you will also stuff the chopped chocolate bits into them.
  • Place each banana into an aluminum foil boat and crimp the edges.
  • Transfer each parcel onto a baking sheet and cook on your barbeque with the lid on for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Remove them from the barbecue. Be cautious as each parcel will be very hot due to the trapped air inside. You can enjoy them directly from the parcel, which should be placed on a serving plate. Don't forget to add a scoop of ice cream on the side.

Marshmallow and Fruit Kebabs

Ingredients:

  • 20 marshmallows
  • 16 strawberries
  • ½ cup of melted Cadbury dark chocolate
  • Toasted hazelnuts or almonds, or crumbled tea biscuits (for garnishing)

Instructions:

  • Skewer the marshmallows and strawberries alternately on four skewers.
  • Place the skewers on your hot barbecue until the marshmallows and fruit have a nice char. Finish by drizzling melted Cadbury Dark Chocolate. If you prefer something sweeter, you can also use melted Cadbury Silk or Dairy Milk. Melt the chocolate in your microwave in 10-second intervals.
  • Garnish with crumbled nuts or tea biscuits. Serve the kebabs immediately.

Grilled Pineapple with Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole pineapple cut into round slices
  • 2 tsp of butter
  • ¼ cup of brown sugar
  • ¼ cup of dark rum
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions:

  • Take the pineapple rings, ensuring that they have been cored because this part usually doesn't offer much in terms of taste or texture.
  • Now, heat up your barbecue grill and place the rings on it. You can also brush the grill with some vegetable oil or non-stick cooking spray to prevent the rings from sticking. Grill both sides so they have the charred grill marks on them and have softened a little.
  • Make a caramel sauce with butter, brown sugar, and dark rum over low heat. Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved, and the sauce has slightly thickened. You can also add a dash of cinnamon powder to the caramel sauce, but this is completely optional.
  • Finally, take the grilled pineapple rings, scoop vanilla ice cream on top, and drizzle with the caramel.
  • Serve immediately.

Dessert Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp of toasted and slivered almonds
  • 2 slices of your favorite bread
  • 2 tbsp of chocolate hazelnut spread (or Cadbury Dark chocolate squares)
  • 4 sliced strawberries
  • 1 tsp of powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp of room temperature butter

Instructions:

  • Spread the chocolate hazelnut spread generously on one slice of bread. Alternatively, you can place the Cadbury dark chocolate square on one side.
  • On the other slice, layer your sliced strawberries, followed by the slivered almonds. Then sandwich both slices together.
  • You can butter both sides of the bread and place them directly on your grill. Toast both sides. Sprinkle the sandwich with powdered sugar and enjoy.
  • Increase the quantity of the ingredients if you're making this recipe for a big crowd.
