Ingredients:

  • 4 to 5 slices white bread
  • 60 ml ghee, to fry
  • 180 ml evaporated milk
  • 60 g sugar
  • 80 ml water
  • A pinch of saffron strands
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder
  • 8 cashews or almonds

Instructions:

  • Trim the crusts of the white bread and toast them until golden brown in an oven or air fryer. You want the bread to be crisp.
  • Cut every slice into smaller pieces.
  • Heat the ghee in a pan and fry the pieces of bread, followed by the nuts. You can use cashews, walnuts, almonds, and even raisins. Once all the items are fried and fragrant, set them aside and start working on the sugar syrup.
  • Add water, saffron, cardamom powder, and sugar in a saucepan and bring this mixture to a boil just to dissolve the sugar. Once the pan is off the heat, add the rosewater.
  • Arrange all the fried slices of bread in another pan and pour the sugar syrup over them.
  • Immediately add the evaporated milk over this.
  • Put this pan over the stove and let it cook for about 2 to 3 minutes on medium heat.
  • Continue cooking until you see no traces of the evaporated milk in this pan.
  • Let the soaked bread rest in the saucepan for about 10 minutes before serving with a topping of dried fruits and nuts.
