The chill is slowly setting in and festivities are around the corner, so why not make these chocolate-laden halwas and add warmth to your evenings?

The nights are getting cooler and sundown is also sooner, and nothing is more comforting than a piping hot plate of halwa, especially when made at home. Even if mom and dad are not around, we got you covered with our easy-to-follow recipes for delicious halwa that will remind you of their jadoo ki jhappi.

Most of these recipes are quite easy to make, especially if you have some experience in making traditional sweet treats, and will fill your home with comforting aromas that are sure to warm your soul. Halwas are traditionally enjoyed during festive occasions but can also be a nice treat any time. But given Diwali is around the corner there is no better time than now to make these.

Kitchen staples like sooji, atta, daal and the trusted cardamom, ghee and milk come together to make sweet dishes that are so good that they warm the heart, body and soul. All our recipes serve four. Make in bulk, or adjust ingredients for making less or more halwas. You can easily store them in the fridge and consume them later.

1. Cadbury Fudge Halwa

Ingredients:

  • 250 gm Cadbury dairy milk chocolate, chopped
  • 150 gm ghee/butter
  • 200 gm condensed milk
  • 100 gm chocolate chips

Instructions:

  • In a pan, melt the butter/ghee on low heat.
  • Add the chopped Cadbury chocolate and stir until melted.
  • Add condensed milk and stir continuously for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
  • Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips.
  • Pour into a plate and refrigerate for 2 hours before cutting into squares.

2. Cocoa Sooji Halwa

Ingredients:

  • 250 gm semolina/sooji
  • 500 ml milk
  • 100 gm butter
  • 150 gm suga
  • 4 tbsp Cadbury Cocoa Powder Mix
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Chopped nuts to garnish

Instructions:

  • Heat the milk in a pan, add butter and let it melt.
  • Add semolina and stir continuously on low-medium flame till thick.
  • Add sugar and stir for 2 more minutes.
  • In 1/4 cup water, dissolve cocoa powder to make a smooth paste.
  • Add the cocoa paste to the halwa and mix well. Cook for 1 minute.
  • Garnish with nuts. Serve hot on a plate.

3. Dairy Milk Silk Gajar ka Halwa

Ingredients:

  • 500 gm carrots, grated
  • 1 liter full cream milk
  • 200 gm sugar
  • 50 gm butter
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 100 gm Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk chocolate, chopped

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan, add grated carrots and milk. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Add sugar and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens to a paste-like consistency, about 30-35 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in chopped Dairy Milk Silk until melted.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl, and top with melted butter and cardamom powder.
  • Cut into 4 equal portions.
  • Serve warm or chilled.

4. Chocolate Badam Halwa

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raw almonds (soaked in hot water)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 tbsp saffron milk
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • Few dry fruits, chopped
  • 50 gm dark chocolate, chopped

Instructions:

  • Peel the soaked (for at least 30 minutes) almonds and blend them with 1/2 cup milk into a smooth paste.
  • Transfer almond paste to a kadai/pan. Add 1 tbsp ghee and saute for 1 minute.
  • Add 1/4 cup sugar and cook, stirring continuously till sugar dissolves.
  • Add 4 tbsp saffron milk and stir till thickened.
  • Add 1.5 tbsp ghee and cook until mixture separates from sides of pan.
  • Add 1/2 tsp cardamom powder and 50 gm dark chocolate pieces. Mix well till chocolate melts. Garnish with dry fruits.

5. Besan Halwa with Milk Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 500 gm besan/gram flour
  • 1.5 liters milk
  • 200 gm sugar
  • 100 gm Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate, chopped
  • 25 gm ghee
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder

Instructions:

  • In a pan, dry roast besan on low heat until lightly golden.
  • Gradually add milk, mixing well to avoid lumps. Bring to a boil.
  • Add sugar and simmer for 20-25 minutes until a thick paste forms.
  • Remove from heat, and stir in the chocolate until melted.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl, drizzle ghee and sprinkle cardamom.
