World Ice Cream Day: Different Types of Brain Freeze Ice Cream & Dessert Sundaes You Need to Try

The sundae originated in the United States by Chester Platt, the owner of a drugstore named Platt & Colt in Ithaca, New York in 1893. The original sundae that he came up with included vanilla ice cream, cherry syrup and a candied cherry. He served this dish to a clergyman Reverend John Scott on a Sunday, which is how the name came to be.

Platt later started serving “strawberry sunday” and a “chocolate sunday” too. The dish became so popular that Platt even tried to unsuccessfully trademark the word Sunday. However, there are many other origin stories that are equally interesting. Nowadays you’ll find so many versions of the sundae, each crazier than the other.

Here are some versions that you can recreate at home on World Ice Cream Day (July 21). Host a sundae-themed party with your own little ice cream bar, which is such an amazing and interactive way to keep your guests entertained!
