  1. First, you have to preheat the oven to 180°C, grease two round cake pans, and line their bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, granulated sugar, and baking powder in a medium sized bowl, and stir until well combined.
  3. Then, in a large mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, you have to beat unsalted butter until creamy, and beat in the eggs individually, with a good whisk after each addition.
  4. Then, you can add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture slowly, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients and beating just until combined.
  5. Now, you have to stir in pure vanilla extract, grated orange zest, and fresh orange juice.
  6. Then, you can divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans, and smooth the tops.
  7. After that, you have to bake them for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Next, you can remove them from the oven, leave them in the pans for 5 min, and then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. For the orange syrup, you have to place granulated sugar and water, orange zest, and freshly squeezed orange juice together in a small saucepan, and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves.
  10. Now, you will bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 7 to 10 minutes, or until the syrup has slightly thickened.
  11. Then, you can remove the syrup from the heat, and let it cool to room temperature.
  12. After that, you can assemble the cake by placing one of the cooled cakes on a serving plate, and brushing the top of the cake with some of the orange syrup.
  13. You can place the second cake on top of the first cake, and brush the top of that with the remaining orange syrup.
  14. Finally, you can serve the cake fresh, and enjoy.
